Yuwaalaraay wirringgaa Lucy Simpson is the Creative Director and Principal Designer/Maker behind Gaawaa Miyay. Over the past 8 years, we have had the pleasure of collaborating with Lucy on several exciting projects, which have helped us build a strong and enduring relationship.
Our collections designed with Lucy feature unique artworks that add depth and meaning to the pieces. We have worked with clients such as Westpac, ANZ, UNSW, AIPM, MFS, and The University of Melbourne, creating products that highlight Australian design and country.
I have been responsible for product development, including product photography, e-commerce assets and management, as well as EDM, social content and print collateral for all of these projects.

BARRAN GIIRR
New moon, new beginnings
The Duality and Barran Giirr collection includes A5 and A4 handmade journals, luggage tags, and framed prints. These products were originally designed for retail, but were later adapted for corporate clients.
The journals and luggage tags are crafted from recycled leather offcuts from the shoe and handbag industry and are made in Sydney. Each artwork is individually blocked in white and black foil, and the refillable pads are made from 100% de-inked recycled post-consumer waste.
The signed screen print on cotton rag comes in carbon-neutral frames that include information about the artist and the meaning of the artwork. The collection uses visual narratives to connect, share, and celebrate aspects of language story, country, and contemporary Aboriginal culture.
We adapted these products for UNSW, where Lucy Simpson is an alumni. The products were logo blocked with the client's logo and custom-made journal inners. These projects have been an exciting and fulfilling experience, and I am proud to have been a part of them.
“Design is a tool, making a process, and art the narrative that connects us back to story and experience. Through my work I create and tell stories in ways that can often transcend words and language, flowing from deep within my bones”
—Lucy Simpson
